Senior Account Executive – Freight Brokerage

Location: Chicago, IL
Compensation: $65,000–$75,000 Base + Commission up to 35%

Position Overview

Our client, a growing freight brokerage, is seeking an experienced Senior Account Executive to develop and grow a profitable book of business.

This is a hunter-focused sales role for an experienced freight sales professional with an existing or previously established customer base. The ideal candidate has a track record of winning new shipper business, developing long-term customer relationships, and selling transportation solutions based on service and value rather than competing solely on price.

The position offers significant commission upside, operational support, and the ability to pursue customers nationwide without territory restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Prospect, develop, and close new shipper business.

  • Transfer, reestablish, and expand existing customer relationships where applicable.

  • Own the full sales cycle from prospecting and qualification through quoting, onboarding, and account growth.

  • Develop relationships with transportation, logistics, supply chain, and procurement decision-makers.

  • Identify customer transportation challenges and provide customized freight solutions.

  • Quote and negotiate profitable freight while maintaining strong customer relationships.

  • Maintain consistent prospecting activity and a healthy sales pipeline.

  • Conduct virtual and in-person meetings with prospective customers.

  • Collaborate with carrier sales, account management, and operations teams to provide reliable service.

  • Grow accounts through strong execution, communication, and relationship development.

Qualifications

  • 2–7+ years of freight brokerage, transportation, or 3PL sales experience.

  • Proven history of developing new shipper business.

  • Current or previous book of business and established shipper relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to generate profitable freight and protect margins.

  • Strong prospecting, negotiation, and closing skills.

  • Experience selling directly to transportation and supply chain decision-makers.

  • Ability to manage the complete sales process independently.

  • Strong sense of urgency and responsiveness to customers and prospects.

Transportation Experience

Candidates should have experience selling or managing freight across multiple transportation modes. Experience may include:

  • Full Truckload (FTL)

  • Dry Van

  • Refrigerated

  • Flatbed

  • Less-than-Truckload (LTL)

  • Partial Truckload

  • Expedited / Sprinter Van

  • Box Truck

  • Specialized transportation solutions
