Department Manager – Water Treatment Engineering

Locations: Erie County NY, | Monroe County NY, | Onondaga County NY, | Albany County NY

A multidisciplinary firm specializing in architecture, engineering, energy, and construction is looking for a Department Manager to lead their Water Treatment Engineering team. This role is based at their headquarters in Williamsville, NY, but can also be based out of other offices across New York State.

About the Role:

This leadership position focuses on overseeing water treatment and storage projects, guiding a team of 5–10 engineers, and ensuring smooth coordination between technical staff and company leadership. You’ll play a key role in team scheduling, project delivery, quality assurance, mentoring, and client engagement. In addition to managing the team, you’ll serve as a technical lead on major water treatment projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers in the water systems group

  • Coordinate team schedules, project timelines, and staff utilization

  • Oversee project quality, staff development, and technical performance

  • Serve as a senior technical resource for treatment and storage projects

  • Support business development by building client relationships and helping secure new work

  • Perform system evaluations, process improvements, and hydraulic modeling

  • Provide expert support to utilities and public/private clients

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering

  • PE license required

  • 10+ years in water treatment or related engineering fields

  • Experience leading project teams and mentoring staff

  • Proficiency in MS Office and basic drafting tools (CAD/Revit)

  • Willingness to travel to job sites and attend client meetings
